VINTAGE SEWING MACHINE #2

I was asked to recreate the "Vintage Sewing Machine"
I made a while back as was very pleased to do so!
I am really pleased with the result
and thinking it is actually better than the first one I made.
..........
If you can recall the actual sewing machine part is Polystyrene
covered in sugarpaste (fondant)
and decorated to resemble the machine.
This is placed on a 3mm cake board which can be
removed and if wished....saved.
The machine box part is cake,
"Zesty Lemon Sponge sandwiched together
with Lemon Buttercream.
and placed on a 12" x 14" cake board.

WINTER MAGNOLIA

WINTER MAGNOLIA

This is the new Wedding Display Cake I have made to go in http://www.susansofgosport.co.uk/ and if you live in the Hampshire area drop by Gosport and you will be able to view this and see how elegant this looks for real. Also have a look at the extensive selection of Wedding and Prom dresses........she has everything you could wish for and more......

This cake has deep tiers for the top and middle and standard depth for the bottom tier, but would look amazing no matter what depth each tier was.

Double covered with ivory sugarpaste for a clean finish and trimmed with ivory sugarpaste trim and ribbon which could be any colour to match your wedding colour/theme.

To finish the simplicity design, a sugar Magnolia is added and sligtly dusted with lustre (although on the photo the lighting gives it quite a glossy look) and the flower centre has some magic sparkles sprinkled on for a slight jewelled finish.

GUITAR WEEKEND

I had two separate orders for this last weekend
and they were both for "Guitar Cakes!"
...what are the chances?
The Top guitar was made to look like the clients
son's own Yamaha Guitar so this was airbrushed for the effect,
I remembered at the last minute to put the
Yamaha writing and symbol on the Machine Head part
literally just before they rang the doorbell to pick the cake up,
unfortunately I didn't get any photos of that
but pleased with the photo's I have got anyway!
This particular cake was Chocolate sponge with
Chocolate Buttercream covered in sugar paste/fondant
and all the detailing is edible.
.......................
The bottom cake (photographed above)
was a Vanilla Sponge & Buttercream
and made almost identical but you will probably recognise it
from a cake I made quite a while back,
so this one is a replica of that.
Both cakes were set on a 24" x 14" Cake Board

Walking Boot cake

65th Walking Boot Cake.
Within this cake I had to incorporate 4 children,
to represent the grandchildren,
a destroyer naval ship, cricket bat & ball
and a blue & white striped footy scarf.
Everything here is edible.
The cake itself is Zesty Lemon with Lemon Buttercream.
All placed on a 14" square Cake Board.

Double Chocolate Cupcakes

So........I know the photo isn't the best quality,
but lets face it, when the cupcakes taste really good
......who cares!!!
......
I made these from one of my cake recipes
and wanted to find out if they worked well as cupcakes!
the answer to that one is "OH YES!!!"
The dark chocolate sponge tastes really chocolatey
and yet so light in texture,
each one is covered in a thick layer of
chocolate glaze and when it's set it's still soft,
firm but soft!
and as for the taste, well.....my best yet!
sooo pleased with these!
Now all we have to do is eat them!
Oh my poor waistline!........tut, never mind lol!

Vintage Pearl & Rose Wedding Cake

This 3 tier Wedding cake would look gorgeous
at any wedding with a vintage theme.
............
Each tier has double the thickness of any regular cake
( I think looks a lot better for this style)
has sugarpaste pearls around each base as a boarder
and the middle tier is completely covered in
sugarpaste strings of pearls
......of which I don't mind sharing with you,
"they took forever!!!"
but the result is well worth it.

The pearls are painted with a golden pearl lustre
& finished off with various sized roses in a graded peach colour.

Masquerade Cupcake Tower

Masquerade Themed 40th Party
This order was placed as a surprise for the clients wife,
obviously she knew about the party
but he wanted to order her some cakes to tie in with the theme.
He already mentioned he liked the look of the
coconut covered cupcakes and more or less left the design up to me,
so this is what was designed.
The top cutting cake is a 6" Vanilla Sponge
with Rosewater Buttercream,
covered in white fondant.
The large Mask Topper is Sugar,
handcut and crafted, airbrushed and painted in Blue & silver
with a sugar flower and finished off with feathers with embellishments.
The cupcakes are a variety of
Vanilla sponge covered with coconut and topped with
a double bloom.
Chocolate cupcakes and Zesty Lemon cupcakes
are fondant covered with a single sugar mask
individually airbrushed then hand painted.
I got a message from the client this morning saying that the cakes were a great success!
I am so pleased, as these were a joy to make,
yes, they took me absolutely ages
but the result was well worth it!

Gosport Lifeboat Cake #2

I was asked to make another Gosport Lifeboat cake,
and guess what....this one is for a Jonathan aswell!
How funny!
A lovely family, they found the boat cake online
whilst looking for some kind of inspiration...
they said they couldn't believe it when they saw that
I was in the same town as they!
Good for them and good for me ;0)
..........
The cake is a light vanilla sponge with buttercream
covered with fondant.
The waves on the board are fondant with royal icing.
Cake measures 8"x10"
and just over 3 inches deep (not including the centre piece)
..........
All Edible

Simple Domed Cupcakes

Will's going round to see his friend Harry after school today
and I was invited along for a coffee,
so it would be rude of me to turn up empty handed!
..............................
These are just my simple Vanilla cupcakes flavoured with
Nielsen-Massey Vanillas, Vanilla Extract.
I get so excited everytime I reach for this fabulous flavour,
as soon as you open the bottle the aroma hits you,
sweet and rich with a hint of alcohol.........
ooooh....maybe that's what I am liking! LOL!!!
but seriously, for me, this is the best extract to buy!
The buttercream is left plain (not flavoured) but lots of it!
and covered with a circle of fondant.
Each cupcake has a single butterfly or blossom
with Pink/Purple tones.
.............................
Lets hope they like cake! lol!

"NEW" Shabby Chic/Vintage cookies

These are some of the cookies I posted today to Norwich,
to the lovely couple who held on to my parcel
(whilst arrangements were made for redirecting)
I just wanted to give them a small token to show my appreciation.

These cookies are my new line..."shabby Chic/Vintage"
made in pale blues & greens with ivory royal iced piping, in the shape of "Lovebirds and Bird Houses". (The Lovebirds are handcut to give the intended shape)
These would suit any Vintage Wedding or a special Party and come in any 2 or 3 colour combo.

......one amazing lady!
and is doing everything to increase awareness to everyone,
not only the public but the medical community and the government also
The survival rate of this type of cancer is only 3% of which you will agree is a real eye opener!

"Nicola" Anniversary Cake

This 2 tier cake was a bit of a rush job......
infact, this is a cake I made for our 8th Wedding Anniversary.
With the cakes I make for clients there is always planning involved,
but when it comes to making one for ourselves
it's usually a just few cupcakes as I have left it too late
or a very small cake.
This time I wanted a two tier and quickly made the vanilla sponges.
I mixed up this gorgeous pale duck egg blue coloured sugarpaste
(which the colour doesn't look true in this photo)
which I adore!!!
I hadn't a clue how to decorate it so I piped some royal icing pearls
at the base of each tier and placed an Ivory sugar bloom ontop......
I still wasn't happy with it, so I went and had a good
sort through my sugarcraft kit/tools drawers
and pulled out the dragonfly mould
..............perfect!
So I have a cake I would like,
I didn't want to make one in the style my husband would want
as it would probably have footballs all over it!!! lol!
..........
My Husband named this cake "Nicola" as
it's for our anniversary he thought it made sense!
.....
Cake size is
Top tier 5"
Bottom tier 8"

Marines Cupcakes

These cupcakes are an order I made for a lovely lady (Jo Sowerby) who is also

a follower of this blog and my facebook page :o)

She wanted some cupcakes for her friends son who has

joined the Royal Marines!

I usually make the sugar cap badges from a mould but unfortunately

wasn't able to get a badge in time for the order,

so I made one which is handcut and crafted....freehand,

it's a little larger than the actual badge size

but I am really pleased with the result!

and hopefully Jo and the newly Royal Marine will be too!

This cupcake is Lemon Sponge,

with a generous portion of Lemon Buttercream,

covered with a circle blanket of sugarpaste in dark green

to represent the "Green Beret" and topped with the edible

Royal Marine Badge.

The other cupcakes are of the same flavours,

but covered in a camouflage designed sugarpaste!

Thank you for the order Jo! x

I absolutely love making "Military Cakes"

and I have another Military cake order for early next year

I can't say anything about them yet,

but they are going to be really special...... so I can't wait to make those!

Black & White Cupcakes

Black & White Cupcake

Zebra Print case filled with vanilla sponge,
 with rosewater buttercream
and covered with a circle of white sugarpaste
...topped with a single white bloom.

The Animal print cupcake cases are purchased from
our local supermarket "Morrisons"
and I was very impressed with them,
the print didn't fade at all,
as some cases I have bought in the past
from sugarcraft retailers, faded so much
..................and were quite pricey!
These come in a pack of 100 in four designs
(Black & White Zebra, Pink & White Zebra,
Black Leopard Print & finally Grey Leopard Print)
and I think I just paid 99p
Bargain!

They are slightly smaller than the usual cupcakes I make,
but still a good, deep size!

"Anna" Wedding Cake

"Anna" Wedding Cake

2 Tier Wedding cake in Ivory
with same colour sugar paste trim and ivory ribbon,
decorated with a single Anemone sugar flower.

I am loving this simplicity range
I'm doing at the moment
and will be making another 3 tiered one for
the weekend although a lot more work
is involved on one of the tiers!

Thanks for looking!

"Michelle" Wedding Cake

"Michelle" 3 Tier Wedding Cake.

A very deep tiered cake,
simply iced in Ivory sugarpaste with a same colour sugarpaste trim
and decorated with a single large pink sugar flower

(the one I photographed last week)

I love the simplicity of this..........though it was hard not to add swirls and extra blossoms lol!
I guess sometimes less is more!!!

Sugar Bloom

A sugar bloom made out of flower paste
for a cake I'm making for next week.
The sugar flower isn't any particular flower especially,
it's somewhere between a Anemone and a Peony..........
Well, whatever it is, I think this
full bloomed, romantic looking blossom is beautiful
and couldn't wait to place it on a cake,
so I photographed it on it's own...
and love it!
