Vintage Sewing Machine Cake & Co-ordinating Cupcakes

I had an order from a lovely lady requiring a "Vintage, Singer Sewing Machine Cake" with co-ordinating cupcakes for her mother's 70th Birthday, as she used to be a machinist.
All these got picked up yesterday morning (Friday)
and travelled all the way from Gosport to Manchester.
I do hope everything got there in one piece,
although we did make sure everything was secure and flat!
When the daughter picked them up she said she was blown away by it
so I hope her mother feels the same way! :o)
The cupcakes are Vanilla and half were decorated to look like Pin Cushions and the other half had buttons and thimbles ontop.
The cake is also Vanilla sponge with buttercream.
The actual sewing machine isn't cake because of the distance it would have to travel we both agreed that polystyrene (A cake dummy) cut to shape and decorated would be the best option, so it stands on a board which can be cut off from the cake.
I loved making this, though a little time consuming in places but so worth it! I just love the look of this!

Children's Birthday Cakes

These cakes were made last week for Brother & Sister who
shared a Birthday party (yes, again I am late uploading pictures! tut!)

The first cake is a character named Lau-Lau from the TV program
Waybuloo.
The cake is Chocolate sponge carved then covered in sugarpaste.
The Narabug (butterfly) is sugarpaste and oh so CUTE!!! love it's little face!
The name & age plaques are shortbread cookies also
covered with sugarpaste.
The board has lots of glittery edible sparkles on as the character
loves all things glittery!

...............

The second cake here is a "Ben 10" theme cake.

This cake was Vanilla Sponge shaped like the Ben 10 watch face
covered and decorated in sugarpaste with green lustre balls (bubbles)
and the handmade character "Four Arms" as the topper.
This cake also had cookie name & age plaques
with the name airbrushed to give it the graded colour.

................

I have since heard that they both loved their cakes,
thats the part I would like to see.... is their faces when the cakes are presented to them!
but very glad they enjoyed them....and enjoyed eating them too!!!
:o)

Poppy Wedding Cake

3 Tier Poppy Wedding Cake with a hint of Baroque style swirls as a background.

I made this cake (Dummy) to be displayed in Susan's of Gosport
our local Wedding Gown Shop http://www.susansofgosport.co.uk/ and I might add that it is Gosport's one and only store of this kind,
so I was very excited when my neighbour told me that her friend would like me
to make a display cake for her store after seeing my cakes online.
Hopefully it will send some Wedding Cake business my way :o)

When I dropped off the cake there were lots of people in there,
which aparently is the norm and the shop itself is lovely,
full of the most gorgeous Wedding Dresses (obviously!)
also Prom Dresses and Eveningwear....
can you guess that I am still excited about the whole thing!!!!

Anyway Hayley (the owner) loved the cake
and of course the cupcakes I gave her (pictured above)
so she can actually say that she has tried the cakes herself.

Black & White and Red & White are very popular colour combo's for her at the moment
so I said I would incorporate all three colours together and made this.
I absolutely love poppies and didn't realise actually how popular they are,
since I made the poppies I have seen them everywhere!!!

This cake is a 6", 8" (Double Depth) and a 10"

Teacher's Cakes

I have got a bit behind with my blog as I have
been a little busy with catching up with emails,
making cakes, family etc........ I really do try to blog my work as soon as I
have finished making the cakes but it doesn't always happen, a bit like my Saturday
morning lie-in! I didn't have that either as I had to deliver a display cake
(pictures will be above this in a moment) to a lovely shop this morning!
Anyway.................
This is a selection of cakes/cupcakes I made for my son to give to his teacher
and teacher assistants as "Thank You" gifts.
Quite a sad day, as it was his last day at Infant school on Friday
and will now be joinning the Juniors in September.......
my baby is growing up so fast :o(
.................
The top cake was given to his wonderful teacher
and was inspired by some costume jewellery (Brooch)
I had spotted online and thought it would make a
beautiful decoration, made out of sugar for a cake,
and I think I was right, really love this one!
..................
The second cake was given to the teacher's assistant,
another lovely lady, who I might add has had cakes from me in the past :o)
I love the flowers on this cake!
.................
The cupcakes were for another assistant who sometimes helps out
and were in style with the first cake.

Bird House Cake

This cake was my donation to Will's School Summer Fayre to be put in the raffle...........a little sad to see it go :o( but very pleased to see people like it so much..... I had alot of compliments!

The idea behind this comes totally from

http://www.flickr.com/photos/neviepiecakes/3473384637/in/set-72157617217202713/ I fell in love with this Ditsy Gingerbread Bird House she made and have wanted to make a bird house cake ever since, I could never manage the superb painting that she does...I'm not that clever! but placed sugar dog woods instead on this shabby chic style cake.

Neviepiecakes......your work is so inspirational! and thank you for sharing your amazing talent for us all to enjoy!

Vanilla sponge shaped and covered and put on a 10 inch cake board.

Dinner Cupcakes

We have dinner guests tonight and that is a perfect excuse for cupcakes!!!!

I had no idea what design I was going to do,
so made a few flowers last night....
which I might add didn't like them much then,
and just went with the flow today,
and now quite like them,
although the green is slightly more gentle than it looks here.

The flowers are cut with the Fantasy Flower Cutter
and placed on a light sage green, scored, circle of fondant,
which look a little like daisies on a lawn.....well I think so!!:o)

"A Paisley Dream" Wedding Cake

I have had this image for a Wedding Cake for ages....

since doing the paisley cupcakes way back,

I just LOVE paisley so much!

I then found a cake designed by my favourite Cake Artist/Designer, Shinmin Li,

(her work is out of this world)

it was what I was sort of thinking,

but with delicate flowers added for a more feminine feel

(and alot more detail and skill I might add)

so I can't take all the credit for the design.

But I love this and feel it is a quite typical style of what I do.

3 tiered Dummy Cake covered in fondant with a hint of peach,

decorated with blossoms and piping in the same colour.

Paisley shapes were handcut, dusted and piped.

Cake size:

Bottom tier 9"

Middle tier 7"

Top tier 5"

Applique Dog Rose Wedding Cake

I say cake, but this is a dummy cake....my first actually.
I did think it would be easier to work with,
but it is so light and a little awkward, how you girls do them so well is beyond me!

I have had this image in my head for ages now
and though I had better get and put it to cake (as such) before it goes!
............I am pretty pleased with how it looks, even though my piping needs more practice!

Now to work on the other!!!

Bottom Tier: 7"

Top Tier 5"

Covered in plain white and the piping work painted with pearl to highlight.

Camouflage Boobs Cake

...............................
This turned out a little more "Perky" than I intended,
but the customer was very happy with it,
I told her to think of it as getting extra cake!! lol!
I have noticed that my photostream is starting to look like my "old" photostream,
with Wall-E and now this......but I am not complaining!
Vanilla Sponge Cake with buttercream sandwiched and covered,
then covered in skintone fondant & Camouflage fondant.
Placed on a 16 inch x 14 inch cake board

with embossed or plain fondant
& decorated with a single bloom.
One cupcakes holds the little girl's name (Abigail)
on with two small blooms.
These smell devine!!!

WALL-E #2

I was asked to make WALL-E again,
I really think it is more difficult the second time around!
still enjoyed it all the same and so worth it when you see
the faces of the customers! :o)

This is a Chocolate, Vanilla layer cake
with buttercream...yum!
The wheels and Eyes are made from polystyrene
and covered in fondant.
Everything on this was handcut.....that's why I never went to bed last night
just worked all through the night.......soooo tired but glad I did!

Wedding Anniversary Cupcakes

After doing the Wedding Cupcakes this last weekend,
the Florist asked if she could order a Cupcake Gift Box
for her Wedding Anniversary in any design I wanted,
so I thought of these heart ones
(like I did quite a bit back, but with silver trim)
and when she came to collect them...........she loved them!
................................
Really do love this design and think this will have to be my Valentine's line for next year!www.smallthingsiced.co.uk

Teal & White Wedding Cupcakes & Cookies

This was my first Wedding order.....well, it was for the "Sweets Table"
at the Evening Reception, but still a Wedding order all the same!
and so nice to be broken into this field gently.

The Bride to be came along with her parents (who were all very lovely) to see samples
of what I could do for her and to my surprise she wanted
all the designs and for two weeks later.....I was very excited!!!!!

Absolutely love the colours Teal & White,
Just wish I was able to get some photo's of them all set up together!
But I am very happy with how they all turned out....hope
everyone liked them as much as I did!

So Gemma if you read this,
"Thank you!" so much for the order,
I am honoured you chose me to make your Cupcakes and Cookies
for the evening reception.

All the best to you & your husband!
